Solar Capital UK

Privacy policy

Last updated 2 November 2026

Solar Capital UK helps developers of renewable energy projects, starting with solar in the United Kingdom, prepare their projects for financing, and helps financiers review them. This policy explains what information we collect through solarcapital.uk, app.solarcapital.uk and our field capture app, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. “Solar Capital UK”, “we” and “us” mean the company that runs these services, which is the controller of your personal information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Questions go to hello@solarcapital.uk.

What we collect

How we use it

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Our lawful bases

How we use AI

We use AI models to read documents, pull out figures, and draft text for you to check. Today these are Anthropic's Claude models, which we reach through OpenRouter. We send customer information only to paid AI services whose terms do not allow them to train their models on it. We do not use your information, or anything from your Google or Microsoft accounts, to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.

Information from your Google account

If you connect Gmail, Solar Capital UK asks for read-only access to your email so it can find and file project documents attached to messages you receive. If you import from Google Drive, Solar Capital UK asks only for the files you choose in Google's file picker.

Solar Capital UK's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, we use Google user data only to provide the features you see in Solar Capital UK; we do not use it for advertising; we do not sell it; we do not use it to develop, improve or train generalised AI or machine-learning models; and people at Solar Capital UK do not read it unless you ask us to, it is needed for security or to comply with the law, or it has been made anonymous.

Information from your Microsoft account

If you connect Outlook, Solar Capital UK reads the email you receive to find project documents, and can send email from your address only when you tap Send on a request or reminder you have seen. If you import from OneDrive, Solar Capital UK reads only the files you pick, and forgets the sign-in when the import finishes. The same limits as for Google apply: no advertising, no sale, and no AI training.

Who we share it with

Where your information is kept

Our providers may store and process information outside the UK, for example in the European Economic Area or the United States. When they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or on the safeguards UK law recognises, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

How we protect it

Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Each company's information is kept separate, and the database itself checks who may see each record. As your advisers, Solar Capital UK staff can see your company's information and, to help you or fix a problem, sign in to your account and make changes for you. Each time staff sign in to your account is recorded.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy to take elsewhere, and you can withdraw consent you have given (for example by disconnecting an account). Email hello@solarcapital.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

Solar Capital UK is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and tell signed-in users about significant changes before they apply.
